After Brian Smith‘s Shields side overcame Northallerton Town in a comeback 3-1 victory, North Shields now face a tough away fixture at the home of Newcastle Blue Star.
Reece Wanless came off the bench to score an eight minute brace, which took the Robins to three wins in three.
The same can not be said for Blue Star. They are three games without a win, and have only recorded one point in that time.
Last Time Out:
Shields faced Blue Star in the final of the Brooks Milesson Memorial League Cup in the last official match of the 25/26 season. It was one in which the Robins ran rampant.
North Shields won in astonishing fashion on the day, and despite losing to Blue Star 13 days prior, the Robins won 3-0 and ended their 11 year trophy drought.
Blue Star In Turmoil?
As mentioned earlier, Newcastle Blue Star have only achieved one point from their last three outings. So the question lies, what has gone wrong?
After losing star striker Dan Lanning to Blyth Spartans, Blue Star initially relied on Euan Potts to replace his output.
But apart from a few goals in the first two fixtures, the Blue Star number nine has had a dip in form, and is now not starting every week.
But the problem is, his counterparts are not being effective either. Only Jakub Zych has recorded any goals for Dan Tracey‘s side in those last three matches (+1 unknown?).
Although the data would suggest that Blue Star as a unit are not goal shy, over the last couple of weeks they have not been able to replicate Lanning’s exploits, and are suffering because of it.
Granted they had played some very tough opposition, such as league Favourites Newton Aycliffe and Bishop Auckland, and also last year’s third place finishers Whitley Bay.
The Robins Keep Bobbing Along:
It is three wins in three for Brian Smith’s side, after they came back from a goal down to cruise past Northallerton Town 3-1.
Though Northallerton had scored first, Shields dominated the game from start to finish.
It was not all sunshine and roses, however. Throughout the match, North Shields had plenty of opportunities to score, but failed to convert on many occasions.
Town scored against the run of play, and Shields just could not score. The ball fizzed across the six-yard box so much that if we had of got a touch on a few, the result would have been alarmingly different.
