After demolishing Alnwick Town 4-0 in the Newcastle Flooring Northumberland FA Senior Cup, we now return to league action against Kendal Town, who are making the long trip from Cumbria to face our Robins.
Relegation Calling?
A poor pun based on the popular music festival, but the message strikes true; Kendal Town are in turmoil.
After being one of the better teams in the EBAC Northern League Division One last season, Kendal have been weakened by the new influx of clubs looking to climb back up to the Northern Premier.
They have been gutted over the summer, and it has reflected in their league position; 20th.
While not in the relegation zone, they are tiptoeing around some very deep waters.
After recording only two wins in 10 matches, Kendal need to look at grinding out some tough results in the lead up to Christmas if they wish to beat the drop.
Finding The Finishing Touch
While two wins in ten would normally be damning for any club, Kendal have been getting results. Four draws, to be precise.
Football is about fine margins, and one could argue that Kendal have just been on the wrong side of those margins, and are unfortunate to be where they currently find themselves.
Kendal need to find the edge in front of goal to outscore those around the bottom half of the league.
They are not shipping many to the lower sides, but failing to pick up all three points in those matches will be the reason they stay up or live to regret their performances.
Robins On Fire!
The opening round of the Newcastle Flooring Northumberland FA Senior Cup went about as well as anybody could have hoped, a 4-0 trouncing of Alnwick Town.
The Robins were dominant from start to finish, and it only helped boost the team’s confidence even more coming into today’s affair.
That is now five wins in five matches for Shields across all competitions, and Brian Smith‘s side are unbeaten in six.
