Four days after leaving it late before goals from Dan Wilson and Jordan Lashley forced a penalty shootout in the FA Vase, North Shields are back in action at home once again.
This time out, we welcome Redcar Town to the Daren Persson Stadium in the EBAC Northern league Division One.
Background Check:
Redcar Town are a team from, you guessed it, Redcar. It is a seaside town in the county of North Yorkshire, and is part of the Greater Teeside area.
Redcar Town are a new team in the EBAC Northern League Division One after winning the Division Two title last season. They currently sit in 11th place after 18 matches played, and they have a couple of games in hand on those in the positions above.
Kayden Robinson-Coley is their top goal scorer with six goals, which in terms of 18 matches played is not a lot, however there are a few players on five and four goals alike, which added up shows the description of a free-scoring side that is playing with confidence and sharing the load among themselves.
Despite being overshadowed by the stellar performances of fellow promotion side Yarm & Eaglescliff, 11th in the table is an amazing achievement for a promoted side, and the unpredictability of the league as a whole has benefitted the promoted sides.
The Teeside outfit have won three of their last five; their last match being a 1-all draw with playoff-chasers Newton Aycliffe.
Three days ago, Redcar Town announced the signing of former Boro Rangers defender Louie Hall, after a long-term admiration of the player. Whether he will make his debut in blue and white at the Daren Persson stadium later tonight is yet to be announced.
Back To Winning Ways?
North Shields advanced to the Third Round Proper of the FA Vase last Saturday, after a late comeback against Lincolnshire side Brigg Town forced a penalty shootout, which was decided by a cool finish from Nelson Ogbewe.
Shields played a dominant first half, but some of the issues of pervious weeks started to creep into the overall game.
Once again it felt like the goalposts were being moved, and the Robins could not buy a shot on target for nearly 70 minutes. Brigg Town took the lead with a 1-2 punch just after the half time break.
It looked like North Shields were going to crash out of the Vase, but in a flash the momentum of the tie swayed when Dan Wilson headed home from six yards out. Wilson went on to win a penalty in the 86th minute, and Jordan Lashley fired home to complete the 15 minute comeback.
It was hard fought and nail-biting, but a win is a win, and after three games without a win, it will serve to provide a confidence going into tonight’s matchup.
