MATCH PREVIEW: Thornaby FC (H-GW19)

In their last outing, North Shields dominated in every aspect of the match except the final finish, and it was reflected in a goalless draw against the struggling Blyth Town. After a weekend off, we now look forward to being at home again.

This time, we welcome Thornaby to the Daren Persson Stadium in the last EBAC Northern League Division One match before we kickstart our FA Vase campaign next weekend.

Nightmare Form?

It is the run up to Halloween night, so it would be rude to not make a Halloween style pun to describe Thornaby’s monsterous form as of late. After a strong start to the season, this season’s dark horses have fallen to 11th place in the league table.

This comes after a run of five straight defeats, the most recent being a crushing 6-2 defeat at home to Crook Town, who have started picking up some great results as of recent.

Thornaby are in a slump at the moment, but it is not all doom and gloom for the Blue Lamps just yet, as they are still scoring goals on most matchdays. Summer addition Spencer Walker has 16 goals to his name – over three times as many as second placed Kurtis Howes.

North Shields will have to be careful, because young Walker is a handful for any backline, even for one as good as the Robins’.

Shields’ Attacking Woes:

After going on an impressive two month winning streak, North Shields are now two matches without a win. Last time out against Blyth Town, the Robins dominated in every aspect of the game. Everything was there in the performance, apart from the final finish.

That final bit missing was the difference between one point, and the full three on display. Mainly, the low crosses coming into the opposition box like cannon fire. But, the ball has lacked a target, or rather, the extra yard to stretch and get a touch on it.
